Được coi là một trong những vật liệu có hiệu suất cao, thân thiện với môi trường, ván ép ngày càng trở nên phổ biến và được các thị trường tin dùng rộng rãi đặc biệt là thị trường quốc tế như: Châu Âu, Mỹ, Nhật, Hàn, Ấn Độ. Ván ép Okoume là gì?

Ván ép Okoume hay còn được biết đến với tên tiếng Việt là cây dái ngựa hay xà cừ Tây Ấn. Đây là loại cây thuộc bản địa miền nam Florida, Jamaica và Cuba. Loại gỗ này có màu nâu đỏ nhạt với những đường vân gợn sóng, xen kẽ nhau nên thường được ứng dụng nhiều trong việc xây dựng đồ nội thất trong nhà.
Đặc điểm ván ép Okoume
1. Đặc điểm gỗ:
- Okoume hay còn được biết đến cái tên Gỗ Dái Ngựa
Gỗ Okoume (Mahogany) thuộc họ xoan, có thân thẳng tròn, có thể cao tới khoảng 20 – 35 m. Là cây thân gỗ với lá bán thường xanh với kích thước trung bình. Ván ép Okoume được làm từ loại gỗ này có đặc điểm như sau:
- Màu sắc: đỏ nhạt đến đỏ nâu đậm đẹp (đậm dần theo tuổi gỗ), hoặc màu ngọc trai có gợn sóng
- Dát gỗ: rõ ràng, tách biệt
- Thớ gỗ: thẳng hoặc lồng vào nhau
- Kết cấu: bền
- Độ biến dạng: thấp
- Tính chất vật lý dựa trên các tâm trưởng thành của mẫu gỗ và các đặc tính này có thể thay đổi tùy thuộc vào điều kiện sinh trưởng cùng với nguồn gốc

- Độ bền cao gia tăng sức chịu lực
- Độ bám dính sơn, keo bền, chắc
- Tối ưu chi phí và hạn chế các chi phí bảo trì phát sinh
- Dễ dàng uốn cong, gấp hoặc cắt theo nhiều hình dạng khác nhau với độ dày và kích thước khác nhau
3. Nhược điểm
- Gia công cần độ tỉ mỉ thêm vào đó là độ chính xác cao
- Có thể bị uốn cong dưới tác động lực mạnh
- Bản chất không có khả năng chống mối mọt nên cần được sơn, cần có một lớp epoxy, vecni hạn chế tiếp xúc khác bên ngoài

- Ván ép Okoume được ứng dụng nhiều trong đồ nội thất
- Ứng dụng trong xây dựng đồ ngoại thất
Với khả năng chống chịu tác động ngoại cảnh cao, và cực kỳ linh hoạt về mặt ứng dụng, nó thường được sử dụng để tạo ra các sản phẩm ngoại thất như: bàn, ghế, đồ sân vườn,… và đặc biệt thích nghi với các điều kiện khắc nghiệt nhất khi được sử dụng trong các ngành xây dựng, đóng thuyền, đóng xe và làm phụ kiện đồ gia dụng bên trong hoặc bên ngoài.
- Ứng dụng làm lớp lót, đồ nội thất..
Ván ép đặc tính các bề mặt mang tính thẩm mỹ cao là một lựa chọn tốt để sử dụng cho lớp lót, đồ nội thất và đồ gỗ vì nó chịu lực tốt và có thể được phun sơn, polyurethane, dầu, tạo nên kết cấu bền vững và đẹp hơn

Loại ván ép này có trọng lượng nhẹ nhất trong số tất cả các sản phẩm ván ép hàng hải hiện có. Nó có thể được sử dụng cho các thành phần thân tàu và boong, vách ngăn kết cấu và chốt.
